How to Open a Terminal on a Mac or Windows PC

Connected AI

Some AI apps (Claude Code, Codex, Grok and Gemini CLI) are set up by pasting a command into a terminal. A terminal is a window where you type instructions to your computer instead of clicking. You only need it for a minute, and you do not need to understand the command: Studio gives you the exact one to copy.

On a Mac

  1. Press Command and Space together. A search bar opens.
  2. Type Terminal and press Enter. A small window with text opens.
  3. In Studio, click Copy next to the command.
  4. Click inside the Terminal window, press Command and V to paste, then press Enter.

You can also find Terminal in Finder → Applications → Utilities → Terminal.

On a Windows PC

  1. Press the Windows key (the one with the Windows logo).
  2. Type PowerShell and press Enter. A blue or black window opens.
  3. In Studio, make sure Windows is chosen under Your computer at the top of the guide, then click Copy next to the command.
  4. Click inside the PowerShell window, press Ctrl and V (or right-click) to paste, then press Enter.

Windows commands are different from Mac commands. Studio shows the right one for the computer you pick, and remembers your choice.

Inside Cursor or VS Code

These apps have a terminal built in. Open your project, then choose View → Terminal from the menu (or press Control and the ` key, found under Esc). Paste the command there and press Enter.

Did it work?

  • Most commands finish quietly. If you see no red error, it worked.
  • If you see command not found (Mac) or is not recognized (Windows), the AI app itself is not installed yet. See Installing Claude Code, Codex or Grok.
  • You can close the window when you are done. You only do this once per computer.
