Installing Claude Code, Codex or Grok on a Mac or Windows PC

Connected AI

Claude Code, Codex and Grok are AI apps that run in a terminal. If you have not installed one yet, here is how. Each command is also shown in Studio under Connect your AI → Don't have it yet? with a Copy button. Need help with the terminal? See How to Open a Terminal.

Claude Code

  • Mac: curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash
  • Windows (PowerShell): irm https://claude.ai/install.ps1 | iex

Then type claude and press Enter, and sign in with your Claude account.

Codex

Codex needs Node.js first. Download the free installer from nodejs.org (choose the LTS version) and run it like any other app. Then, on a Mac or Windows:

  • npm install -g @openai/codex

Then type codex and press Enter, and sign in with your ChatGPT account.

Grok

  • Mac: curl -fsSL https://x.ai/cli/install.sh | bash
  • Windows: follow the install steps on x.ai.

Then type grok login and sign in with your Grok account.

After installing

  1. Close the terminal and open a new one, so it finds the app you just installed.
  2. Go back to AI → Connected AI → Connect your AI, pick your app, and follow the steps: they connect it to Studio and add the /studioapp skill.

If something goes wrong

  • "command not found" or "is not recognized": open a new terminal window and try again. If it still fails, the install did not finish; run the install command again.
  • Windows says scripts are disabled: run Set-ExecutionPolicy -Scope CurrentUser RemoteSigned in PowerShell, answer Y, and try again.
  • "permission denied" on npm (Mac): install Node.js from nodejs.org again with the official installer rather than using sudo.
