Studio has two kinds of AI. They work differently and are counted differently.
Connected AI: your own AI app
- What it is: the AI you already use (Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code and others) connected to Studio. It looks things up and makes changes for you.
- Who does the thinking: your AI app. Its usage and tokens are paid to your AI provider through your own Claude, ChatGPT or other plan, not to Studio.
- What Studio counts: AI actions. Each request your AI makes to Studio (look something up, make one change) is one AI action. Your workspace has a daily number of AI actions from the AI add-on; it shows as AI actions today on the Connected AI page and resets at midnight.
- AI credits: not used, except when your AI asks Skye to write something (below).
Skye: Studio's built-in AI
- What it is: Studio's own assistant, built into the app: Build with Skye for emails, forms and website edits.
- Who does the thinking: Studio, so it uses Studio's AI.
- What Studio counts: AI credits. Each thing Skye writes spends credits from your plan or AI pack. Your balance shows as AI credits on the Connected AI page, with Get more to add credits.
When both happen
Your connected AI can ask Skye to draft an email, build a form or prepare website edits (for example "Using Studio, have Skye draft the Easter email"). That one request counts as an AI action and spends Skye's AI credits, the same as clicking Build with Skye yourself. Everything else your AI does (asking questions, finding records, making changes) uses AI actions only.
In short
- Your AI app working in Studio: AI actions (daily limit). You pay your AI provider for the AI itself.
- Skye writing for you: AI credits.
Both come with the AI add-on and some plans. See Settings → Billing for what your plan includes.
