Workflows

The Commit to Christ workflow is for first-time decisions to follow Jesus. It makes sure no decision card collects dust on a desk somewhere — every new believer gets pastor contact, a next-steps class, and a mentor.

When to use it

Anyone who indicated they made a first-time decision — at a service, online, through a connect card, or in a conversation. Always create a card, even if you're not 100% sure they meant "first-time" — better to walk alongside someone twice than to miss them entirely.

The stages

  • New Decision — The card just came in. A pastor or designated team member picks it up.
  • Pastor Follow-Up — A short conversation to celebrate, listen to their story, and answer questions. Approve to advance, or Reject if they made it clear it wasn't actually a first-time decision (move them to a different workflow if so).
  • Next Steps Class — Attended whatever your church's "what now?" class is. Often called Starting Point, Foundations, Rooted, etc.
  • Mentor Assigned — Paired with someone in the church for ongoing one-on-one walking-alongside.
  • Discipled ✓ — Embedded in community, walking with a mentor, growing. The card stays as a record.
  • Lost Touch ✗ — Didn't respond, moved away, or just stopped engaging. Use this when you've genuinely tried multiple times — not as a quick give-up.

Tips for running it

  • Treat the first 72 hours as critical. A pastor's voice on the phone, a hand-written note in the mail, or a text from the lead pastor — pick one and do it within three days.
  • Use Comments to capture their story from the first conversation. The mentor who picks them up later will be grateful.
  • Pair with the Get Baptized workflow. If they're ready, start a baptism card alongside. The two run in parallel.
  • "Lost Touch" doesn't mean failure. Some people need to come back later in their own time. Keep the card as a record so if they re-engage in 18 months, you'll know.
