Every import in Studio is fully reversible for 30 days after it runs. If a CSV had bad data, mappings were wrong, or the wrong file was uploaded, you can roll the whole thing back with one click and re-run.
How to Revert
- Open the import from the Imports page.
- Scroll to the bottom of the completion screen.
- Click Revert this import. Studio shows a confirmation modal explaining what will happen for the module you imported.
- Confirm. For large imports (more than 5,000 rows), the revert runs in the background, so the page shows a spinner and refreshes when it's done.
What Revert Does Per Module
- People / Donors: Studio took a snapshot of every existing person it touched before the import. Revert restores those people to their pre-import state and deletes the people the import created. Updated people get their name, email, address, phone, etc. rolled back.
- Donations / Giving: Every gift created by this import is removed (gifts are tagged with the import's batch ID). Donor profile aggregates (lifetime total, year-to-date, gift count, last gift date) are recomputed for everyone affected.
- Recurring gifts: the staged schedules the import created are removed. Nothing was ever charged from them, so there is nothing to refund.
- Invoices: invoices created by the import are removed. An invoice that already existed in Studio and had been paid is never touched by an import in the first place, so a revert cannot take one with it.
- Companies, Clients, Vendors: records the import created are removed. Records that already existed and were only filled in are left standing, because deleting them would take data the import never added.
- Events / Projects: records created by the import are soft-deleted, based on the import window.
- Groups, Notes and Check-in history: the records the import created are removed. Notes and check-ins are attached to people, and the people themselves are left alone, so reverting a notes import never touches a profile.
- Recurring gifts: the pledges the import created are removed, with one deliberate exception. A pledge somebody has since restarted is a live subscription with money attached, so it stays and the revert says so.
- Advanced Import: Studio keeps a before-and-after copy of every row it wrote, so a revert restores changed rows to exactly what they said and removes the ones it created.
- Smart Import: a file that landed in several modules at once is undone across all of them in one go, each module by the rule above.
What If People Have Been Edited Since the Import?
For People / Donors imports, if anyone updated a profile after the import ran, by changing their email or editing their address, reverting would overwrite those edits. Studio detects this and asks you to confirm with a second modal: “X record(s) were edited after the import. Reverting will overwrite those edits. Continue anyway?”
If you say no, nothing changes. If you say yes, Studio still rolls back to the snapshot, including overwriting recent edits.
Re-Applying After a Revert
If you reverted by mistake or you want to try again, click Re-apply import on the same screen. Studio re-runs the original CSV through the importer with the same column mapping, so you don't need to upload again or re-map anything.
Re-apply is available within the 30-day window. After that, the original CSV is removed and you'd need to upload again.
If You Can't Revert
Most issues don't need a full revert. You can fix individual records directly:
- The completion screen lists the first 50 errors, with a link to Open profile on each. That jumps you straight to the affected person and you can fix the field manually.
- Download the full error report as CSV from the same screen if there are more than 50.
