Organizations as People

People

An Organization is a Person record that represents a company, ministry, foundation, or any other entity — not an individual human. Use it any time you need to track a business, partner church, vendor, or org-level donor in the same place as your people.

Why orgs live in People

Organizations share the same underlying record as individuals, so an org-level donor flows through the donor list, gets statements, shows up in giving reports, and threads with any individuals tied to it — all without a parallel system.

Adding an organization

  1. Sidebar → People.
  2. Click + Add Person.
  3. At the top of the modal, switch the toggle from Individual to Organization.
  4. Fill in the Organization Name and (optionally) website, then the rest of the standard fields — email, phone, address, source.
  5. Save.

Organizations show up in the People list with their org name and a rounded-square avatar (individuals get a circular one). The list also has an Organizations tab so you can filter to just orgs.

Linking contacts to an organization

On an organization's profile, the Contacts card is where you connect the individuals who represent or work with that org.

  1. Open the org's profile.
  2. In the Contacts card, click Add.
  3. Search for the person by name or email.
  4. Pick their role at the org — Owner, Employee, Manager, Volunteer, Partner, or Other Contact.
  5. Save.

The link is two-way: the individual sees the organization on their own profile under Relationships, and the org sees them in its Contacts list with their role label.

Editing an organization

The header button on an org's profile reads Edit Org (instead of Edit Person). It opens the same modal you used to create the record — org name, website, and all standard contact fields.

What orgs don't get

  • No background checks — Checkr only runs against individuals, so the Background Check button is hidden on org profiles.
  • No first / last name fields — orgs use the single Organization Name field instead.
  • No household role — households are an individual / family concept.

Org donors and receipts

An organization that donates appears in your donor list just like any other donor. Their giving statement, year-end summary, and donor profile use the org name throughout. When the same email signs in to the public donor portal, "Signed in as" shows the organization name — so a finance person paying on behalf of the org sees the right identity at checkout.
