Once you have built a project template, there are two ways to use it.
To bring a brand new client on board, see Setting Up a New Client from a Template — that is the fastest path, and it stands their whole portal up in one move. This page covers the other one: starting a single project from a template, for a client who already exists.
Starting a Single Project from a Template
- Open the client and go to Projects, then click New Project. (If you land on a request form instead, choose Blank project from the form dropdown — the template picker lives on the blank page.)
- At the top of the form, open the Start from a template dropdown and choose your template.
- The form reloads pre-filled, and a panel lists everything the template is about to create.
- Edit anything you like — adjust the title, tweak the description, change the priority.
- Click Create Project.
Taking Just the One Project
When a template carries more than its first project, the panel shows a ticked box: Also set up everything above. Leave it ticked and the extra projects, messages and resources are created too. Untick it and you get only the one project you are looking at, with its checklist — the rest of the blueprint is skipped.
What Gets Created
- The first project, with the title, description, priority and category from the template — or whatever you edited them to.
- Its checklist, added as tasks.
- Any extra projects, each filed under its own category with its own checklist.
- Any messages, posted to the client’s Messages tab where they can read and reply.
- Any resources, added to their Resources tab.
- Every task’s due date is counted from the day you apply the template — a task set to “due in 3 days” lands 3 days out, every time. Tasks with no day set have no due date.
- Categories the template names are created for that client if they do not exist yet. A name that matches one of your standard categories files under that one rather than creating a near-duplicate beside it.
Good to Know
- Templates are for your team. The picker is not shown when a client submits a request through a form.
- Everything the template filled in is a starting point. Nothing is locked — change any field before you save.
- Editing the template later never changes anything you already created from it.
