Choosing a screening provider

Background Checks

Studio doesn't run background checks and doesn't connect to a screening service. You pick a provider, screen people with them directly, and record the outcome in Studio. There is nothing to set up here — no API key, no account to link, no test connection.

Picking one

The record form lists the providers churches and nonprofits most often use — Checkr, MinistrySafe, Protect My Ministry, Sterling, and Verified First — plus Other for anyone else, including a denominational service. That dropdown is a label on the record, not an integration; picking one doesn't connect anything.

Coverage and pricing vary a lot. A basic county-criminal search is cheap and shallow; a comprehensive multi-state search with sex-offender registry and employment verification costs more and catches more. Your insurer or denomination may well specify a minimum — check before you choose.

What it costs

You have a direct billing relationship with your provider, usually somewhere around $10–$50 per check depending on the package. Studio does not resell screenings, does not mark anything up, and never charges you per check. The Facilities-style module fee, if any, is just your Studio plan.

Why it works this way

Keeping the screening with you and your provider means the report, the sensitive personal data behind it, and the decision about what a record means all stay where they belong. Studio holds the status and the dates so nothing lapses — and nothing more.

Using more than one provider

Nothing stops you. Each record stores its own provider, so you can switch at any time, or use different providers for different roles, and your history stays intact and correctly attributed.
