Members, People, Donors, Contacts: What's the Difference?

Members

Studio keeps a single Person record for every human in your workspace. A person can then be any combination of:

  • Donor — gave a gift (or was added as a donor manually).
  • Member — a formal congregation member with household, join date, membership status.
  • Contact — a prospect, lead, or business contact (agency/nonprofit side).
  • Attendee — registered for one of your events.

Because it's one underlying record, a person who donates AND is a member AND attended your gala shows up consistently everywhere — with one set of notes, one tag list, one timeline.

Where to find each view

  • Donors — sidebar → Donations → Donors
  • Members — sidebar → Members
  • Contacts — sidebar → Contacts
  • People — sidebar → People (the full list of every person, regardless of role)

Each view filters the master list to the role you're working with, but editing name/email/phone in any one of them updates the person everywhere.

Individuals vs. Organizations

A Person can be either an Individual (default) or an Organization — a company, ministry, foundation, or other entity that interacts with your workspace. Toggle between the two when you click Add Person.

Organizations show up in the list with their org name and a rounded-square avatar. Their profile has a Contacts card listing the people connected to them — owner, employees, volunteers, partners.

The People list has an Organizations tab alongside All / Givers / Members / Contacts to filter to org records only.
